The practical route
- Check your expiry date early. Leave time for first aid, training, assessment and qualification processing.
- Identify the refresher requirement. Door Supervisor and Security Guard renewals currently require the relevant refresher; Close Protection refresher became mandatory from 1 April 2026.
- Check your first aid is still valid and meets the current remaining-validity rule.
- Complete the refresher qualification with a provider named on the listing, including practical assessment.
- Submit the renewal application and pay the £204 fee.
What if my licence has already expired?
An expired licence does not automatically mean the same route applies. The correct training depends on your licence and qualification history and the current SIA rules, so check before booking.
Door Supervisor or Security Guard refresher?
Take the refresher for the category you hold: Door Supervisor refresher or Security Guard refresher. Current SIA guidance also allows certain Close Protection holders to take the Door Supervisor refresher and switch category.
Close Protection renewal
Close Protection refresher training became mandatory for renewal from 1 April 2026, with a higher-level first-aid requirement.
