What the role involves
CCTV operators monitor public-space surveillance systems from a control room: watching live feeds, spotting incidents early, directing staff or police on the ground, and reviewing and preserving footage as evidence. The work is observational, procedural and legally regulated.
Qualification and licence route

- Pass identity and background checks and receive the licence.
Training requirements
Current SIA guidance lists the CCTV course at 22 hours over 3 days with permitted self-study, or 30 hours over 4 days without it. Check provider identity requirements.

Hours and conditions
