Yes.
UK food hygiene law requires that anyone who handles food is trained, instructed, or supervised in food hygiene matters appropriate to their role.
Under the Food Safety Act 1990 and Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004, food business operators must ensure that food handlers are:
“trained, instructed or supervised in food hygiene matters commensurate with their work activity.”
The law does not require a specific certificate. However, completing a recognised food safety course is the most widely accepted way to demonstrate compliance to employers and Environmental Health Officers (EHOs).
