What is a Designated Premises Supervisor?

A Designated Premises Supervisor, usually called a DPS, is the individual named on a Premises Licence as having day-to-day responsibility for alcohol sales at the premises.

Does the DPS have to be at the premises all the time?

No general requirement.

There is no general requirement for the DPS to physically be at the premises every minute alcohol is being sold.

However, they should have sufficient responsibility and involvement in the business to fulfil their role properly.

Can a premises have more than one DPS?

No.

Only one individual can be specified as DPS on the Premises Licence at a time.

A business may employ several Personal Licence holders, but there will still only be one named DPS.

What happens when the DPS leaves?
